What is Tesamorelin?
Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of human growth-hormone-releasing hormone. Unlike numerous experimental peptides popular online, tesamorelin has been evaluated in relatively substantial controlled human clinical research.
What has human research investigated?
One randomised study involved 404 people with HIV-associated abdominal fat accumulation and reported reduction in visceral adipose tissue compared with placebo during the six-month efficacy phase. Another study investigated visceral and liver fat.
Mechanism
Tesamorelin stimulates the GHRH receptor and consequently influences pituitary growth-hormone secretion and downstream IGF-1 signalling.
Evidence status
Controlled human research is substantial for specific clinical indications. Extrapolation beyond studied populations should be avoided.
